Patna, Dec 21: Governor Devanand Konwar has given his assent to the Bihar Lokayukta Bill, 2011 to pave the way for setting up the three-member Lokayukta to combat corruption in the public life in the state, Raj Bhawan sources said today.

The Governor has given his assent to the Bihar Lokayukta Bill, 2011, the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Bill, 2011, the Bihar Land Mutation, 2011, Bihar Appropriation Bill, 2011, the Bihar Excess Expenditure Appropriation Bill, 1999-2004, the Bihar Contingency Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2011, the sources said.

Both the Houses of the state legislature had passed the Bihar Lokayukta Bill, 2011, during the winter session earlier this month by a voice vote.

Earlier, the NDA government headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had formulated the Bihar Lokayukta Bill, 2011, aimed at putting in place a strong and effective institution of the Lokayukta with the Chief Minister, ministers and the officials and employees to the lowest rung of the administration under its ambit.

Kumar, during debate on the Lokayukta Bill in the assembly, had said that a strong and effective Lokayukta with powers of investigation and prosecution, will go a long way in combating corruption in the state and ensure transparency and accountability in the public life.
