Vardhan said that for the last many years, LPG consumersin Delhi were not being supplied full quantity of gas in the cylinders. This is a grave offence for which the maximum punishment is 8 years' imprisonment with fine, he pointed out.
The weights and measures department of Delhi government carried out checks at 84 gas agencies in the city, of which 63 have been booked for cheating on quantity, and other violations, in a one-year span, he rued.
The raids showed that the cylinders being delivered to consumers weighed much less than the prescribed 14.2 kg and the shortage in the quantity of gas ranged between 200 gm and 2.5 kg.
