Delhi Weather: Visibility drops to zero as dense fog envelops national capital

Braving the cold weather, people were seen sitting near the fire in the New Delhi Railway Station area to protect themselves from the biting climate.

Delhi on Friday woke up to a blanket of dense fog. Several areas across the national capital witnessed zero visibility, including India Gate. Trains and flight services were disrupted in Delhi and neighbouring regions. Visibility was recorded at 25 in Delhi's Palam area while it stood at 50 in Safdarjung. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that very dense fog over some parts of Delhi along with isolated pockets of Haryana. Dense fog in isolated pockets of Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha while moderate fog in isolated pockets of West Bengal, the weather man predicted.

Flight operations affected

Several flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport due to bad weather in the Delhi-NCR region. 

Heavy fog in other parts of India

Several other parts of the country was blanketed in a dense fog. Visibility dropped to very low in many regions due to the dense fog. One of the areas was West Bengal's Murshidabad.

Earlier on Thursday, the visibility was recorded at 500 metres in Delhi's Safdarjung and East-Uttar Pradesh, while it came down to 50 metres in several areas of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.
