    Cong condemns Farooq Abdullah's detention under PSA, says it stands in his support

    The Congress on Monday condemned the detention of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah under the Public Safety Act, saying injustice has been done and it's the country's "misfortune" that leaders who fought for its unity are behind bars.

    The party said it stands in solidarity with Abdullah and if there is "no militancy today" in the state, it was because of the Congress, the National Conference and the PDP, and not the BJP.

    The Congress' reaction came after officials sources on Monday said Abdullah has now been detained under the stringent PSA, which enables authorities to detain any individual for two years without trial.

    Paytm Money gets Rs 40 cr from One97 Communications

    Paytm Money has raised Rs 40 crore funding from One97 Communications, according to regulatory documents.

    "...pursuant to the rights offer made by the company...the Board hereby approves the allotment of four crore equity shares of the company of face value Rs 10 each at a par value (the Rights Shares) to the existing shareholders...for an aggregate consideration of Rs 40 crore," a regulatory document filed with the Corporate Affairs Ministry showed.

    China urges calm in wake of Saudi oil attack

    China's foreign ministry has expressed concerns over the weekend attacks on key Saudi oil sites and says authorities have noted reports that the U.S. blamed Iran for the strikes.

    Hua Chunying, the spokeswoman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, says that "given the absence of a conclusive investigation and result, I think it is irresponsible to determine who should assume responsibility for it."

    'Petrol, diesel prices may shoot up by Rs 5-6 a litre'

    Following the largest ever-disruption of crude production in Saudi Arabia amid drone attacks on its key facilities, prices of petrol and diesel in India may shoot up by Rs 5 to 6 a litre in next fortnight, experts said on Monday.

    A recent report by Kotak said that in light of the sharp rise in international crude oil prices, Indian oil marketing companies (OMCs) may increase the retail price of diesel and gasoline by Rs 5 to 6 per litre in the following fortnight.

    Oil prices soared as much as 20 per cent to above $71 a barrel as markets reopened after a major attack on Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure.

    Kerala freezes decision on new Motor Vehicles Act

    Kerala has joined the list of states that have refused to implement the enhanced traffic fines under the new Motor Vehicle Act. Kerala government will write to the central government over fines.

     

    Earlier, Telangana also joined the list of states that have refused to implement the new traffic fines under the new Motor Vehicles Act. Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao announced the decision said that the state does not "intend to harass people".

    Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttarakhand are other BJP-ruled states that have refused to implement Centre's new rules against traffic violations. The Vijay Rupani government in Gujarat had earlier reduced steep fines of Rs 10,000 to Rs 1,000. Maharashtra, Nitin Gadkari's home state is also mulling to relax hefty fines on traffic violations.

    Not a single bullet fired, no life lost in J&K since August 5: Centre to Supreme Court

    The Centre on Monday told the Supreme Court that not a single bullet was fired and not a single life had been lost after the abrogation of Article 370, that accorded a special status to Jammu and Kashmir, on August 5.

    The Centre's reply came after the apex court asked both the Centre as well as the Jammu and Kashmir government to restore normalcy in the erstwhile state as soon as possible. "Every move should be made keeping in mind national interest," said the top court.

    Pak violates ceasefire along LoC in J&K's Poonch

    Pakistani Army violated ceasefire by resorting to mortar shelling on forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said on Monday.

    A few Army personnel, part of an ambush party, were injured when two mortar shells exploded near them during the shelling on Sunday night, the officials said.

    "Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and intense shelling with mortars in Balakote area of Mendhar sector around 2230 hours on Sunday. Indian army retaliated befittingly," a defence spokesperson said in a statement.

    Officials said an army column was on ambush duty near the LoC when two mortar shells exploded near them, causing injuries to a "few personnel".

    "The injured were immediately evacuated to military hospital and their condition is stated to be stable," they said.

    DLF sells 9 acre land to American Express for around Rs 300 cr

    Realty major DLF has sold a 9 acre land parcel in New Gurugram to American Express for about Rs 300 crore in one of the costliest land deals in this area, sources said.

    The selling price comes out to be around Rs 32 crore per acre.

    American Express will develop a large campus on this land parcel, which is located in Sector 74A, known as New Gurgugram, they added.

    When contacted, DLF's MD (Rental Business) Sriram Khattar and DLF group CFO Ashok Tyagi confirmed the development.

    "This transaction creates a benchmark of value of the land in the area around Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and NH-8 where the Haryana government has made a lot of effort to develop infrastructure," he added

    Khattar said the company would extend all help to the government for the development of New Gurugram as it did for Gurugram.
    DLF is already developing a number of projects in this part of the IT city.
