     A 25-year-old man has been arrested here for allegedly trying to provide ganja (cannabis) to an undertrial person at a cout here on Tuesday, police said. Both the men already have several criminal cases registered against them, said an official.

    J-K LG visits base camp to review arrangements for Amarnath Yatra

    Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday visited Pahalgam and reviewed the arrangements and ongoing works ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, starting from July 1. Sinha conducted an on-site inspection at Nunwan and Chandanwari Base Camps and reviewed the ongoing works and logistics, lodging, health and other facilities that have been put in place for the comfort of pilgrims, an official spokesman said.

    Maharashtra: Cong stages agitation for opening of Haj House in Aurangabad

    Activists of the Congress staged a protest in Maharashtra's Aurangabad on Tuesday demanding that the Haj House constructed in the city for pilgrims be opened. At least 15 to 20 activists of the Congress' Aurangabad city unit were detained when they reached the gate of the Haj House in Qila-e-Ark area of the city, an official said. A Haj House building has been constructed in Qila-e-Ark area for pilgrims undertaking Haj.

    A day after DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin flagged the alleged Hindi imposition by government-run National India Assurance, the insurance company on Tuesday said it believed in promoting a diverse and peaceful workplace and apologised for "hurting any sentiments." On Monday, Stalin had shared a circular of the company on Hindi implementation, and demanded an apology for "the disrespect shown towards non-Hindi speakers of India and non-Hindi speaking employees," of the company.     5.6-magnitude quake jolts Pakistan

    A moderate 5.6-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday jolted parts of Pakistan, including the country's capital Islamabad, spreading panic and forcing people to run out of their homes. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake was felt at 1:04 pm local, with its depth at 10 kilometres, Geo News reported. The quake's epicentre was eastern Kashmir, the PMD said, with its longitude at 75.97 E and latitude at 33.32 N. Tremors were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar, prompting people to rush out of their offices and homes. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property. In Punjab, the tremors were felt in Shakar Garh, Chichawatni, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Hafizabad, and Zafarwal. The quake hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Abbottabad, Swabi, and Swat areas. Meanwhile, in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the tremors were felt in Bagh, DhirKot, and Muzaffarabad areas. Pakistan often witnesses earthquakes of varying magnitudes. The deadliest quake to hit Pakistan in 2005 killed more than 74,000 people.

    A magnitude 5.4 earthquake hit Doda in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday with tremors felt across Delhi and other parts of north India, according to the National Centre for Seismology.     19 injured in bus accident in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur

    Nineteen people sustained minor injuries when their bus hit a rock in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district on Tuesday morning, officials said. The incident took place near Bada Kamba in the Nichar area. The bus was carrying 24 passengers, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre. The injured were shifted to the primary health centre in Bhaba Nagar for treatment. An investigation has been launched into the incident, police said. Further details are awaited. On the first two days of this month, 96 people were injured in separate bus accidents in Shimla and Mandi districts.

    9 more injured in gunfight in strife-torn Manipur

    Nine more people were injured in a gunfight in Khamenlok area in Imphal East district in strife-torn Manipur as the exchange of fire between militants and village volunteers continued till late on Monday night, police said. Initially, three casualties were reported, but the number mounted as the gun-battle continued before both sides withdrew, a police officer said. The village volunteers also burnt a few makeshift bunkers and a watch-tower built by the militants, he said. The area lies along the borders of Meitei-dominated Imphal East district and tribal-majority Kangpokpi district. The injured have been admitted to local hospitals, where the condition of one injured person is stated to be critical while others are out of danger, authorities of the medical establishments said.

    NIA files 2nd supplementary charge sheet against 3 in Bihar's Bhokta murder case

    The National Investigation Agency has filed its second supplementary charge sheet against three people in a case related to the abduction and murder of a civilian by the banned CPI(Maoist) in Bihar in 2018. The charge sheet has been filed at an NIA special court in Patna under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Vinay Yadav alias Kamal alias Murad and alias Guru ji, Naval Ji alias Naval Bhuiyan, and Arjun Bhuiyan and Jilebiya Yadav alias Vinay, all residents of Bihar, a spokesperson of the federal agency said. The latest charge sheet comes just days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted widespread searches in Jharkhand and Bihar in connection with the case which was originally registered by Bihar police on November 3, 2018 following the brutal murder of Naresh Singh Bhokta. Nine people have so far been arrested in the case, the investigation of which was taken over by the NIA on June 24 last year.

    Rupee rises 3 paise to 82.40 against US dollar in early trade

    The rupee gained 3 paise to 82.40 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday supported by positive macroeconomic data and a firm trend in domestic equities. The rupee is trading in a narrow range against the American currency as investors are awaiting cues from the release of US inflation data that could influence the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) policy stance. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.42 against the dollar and then rose to 82.40, registering a gain of 3 paise over its previous close. In the initial trade, the rupee touched a low of 82.46 against the American currency. On Monday, the rupee closed at 82.43 against the US currency.

    Maharashtra: Two workers killed in fire at Pune eatery

    Two workers died and one sustained injuries after a fire broke out in an eatery in Maharashtra’s Pune city in the early hours of Tuesday, an official said. The accident occurred around 1 am at hotel Revan Siddhi in the Market Yard area of the city. "The shutter of the hotel was locked from the outside and some workers were stranded on the loft inside,” said a fire official. He said firefighters broke open the shutter with the help of cutters and found three unconscious workers inside. The three workers were rushed to a hospital where two of them were declared dead, he said. The fire started in the kitchen though its cause is yet to be ascertained, the official said. The fire was brought under control in some time and four liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders were removed from the eatery, he added.

    Truck rams into tree in UP's Unnao, two killed

    Two people were killed and five, including a child, injured when the truck in which they were travelling lost control and rammed into a tree on the Unnao-Hardoi Road in the district's Safipur Kotwali area, police said on Tuesday. The driver of the heavily damaged truck fled the scene after the accident, which occurred late on Monday, they said. The police rescued the injured passengers and admitted them to the local Community Health Centre from where they were referred to the district hospital.

    A man in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, believed to be dead and his body cremated a couple of days ago, has returned home alive, police said on Monday (June 12). The incident, which has raised a serious question mark on the police investigation, occurred at Babhangama village under Aurai police station in the district. Teju Sahani had gone to Muzaffarpur for a court case a week ago. Subsequently, a dead body was found near the village and his son Pramod Sahani identified the body as of his father. Following the identification, local police conducted a post-mortem examination and handed over the dead body for cremation. "We had found the dead body. It looked like my father. The villagers also said that it was of my father Teju Sahani. Accordingly we have cremated it after the post-mortem examination," said Pramod Sahani.

    History-sheeter killed in Nagpur; three arrested

    Three assailants brutally killed a history-sheeter who was externed from Nagpur city limits a few months back, police said on Monday. The body of the victim, Aatish alias Varfatya Rajaram Thakre (26), who was killed on Sunday night, was found lying in a pool of blood with his head smashed with boulders at an open ground in the Kalamna area on Monday morning, they said. Thakre, a painter who faced several criminal cases, was externed from the city a few months ago, but had come here from Wardha in violation of rules, said the police. Three men, Asif Imtiyaz Ali (21), Sohail alias Annu Pyare Shaikh (22) and Rahul Bandu Bagde, all friends of the victim, were arrested for the murder, they said. Following an argument after consuming liquor, the trio attacked the victim, killing him on the spot, said the police.

    One dead after tour boat capsizes inside Erie Canal water tunnel cave in western New York

    A boat carrying hospitality workers capsized Monday during a tour of a historic underground cavern system built to carry water from the Erie Canal beneath the western New York city of Lockport, killing one person who became trapped beneath the overturned vessel, officials said. All 29 people on board the flat-bottomed boat operated by Lockport Cave Tours were thrown into water between five-six feet deep when the craft tipped over toward the end of the roughly 300-foot route. The tours take visitors on an underground boat ride through a dimly lit, rough-hewn tunnel, which was blasted out in the 19th century to transport canal water as an industrial power source. Some passengers dunked into the water were able to get to safety on their own. Rescue crews using an inflatable boat rescued about 16 others, Lockport Fire Chief Luca Quagliano said.
