    RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das meets MD, CEOs of Public Sector Banks

    RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das held meetings with the MD & CEOs of Public Sector Banks and select Private Sector Banks in Mumbai. The meetings were also attended by Deputy Governors, M. Rajeshwar Rao and Swaminathan J, along with a few senior officials of the RBI.

    The Governor emphasized the need for MD & CEOs to pay special attention to strengthening the governance in the banks and focus on the tripod of banking stability consisting of compliance, risk management and audit functions.

    The issues relating to strengthening of credit underwriting standards, monitoring of large exposures, implementation of External Benchmark Linked Rate (EBLR) Guidelines, bolstering IT security and IT governance, improving recovery from written-off accounts, and timely and accurate sharing of information with Credit Information Companies were discussed.

    Bilkis Bano case: SC adjourns to July 17 hearing of pleas against remission to convicts

    The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned to July 17 the hearing of a batch of pleas challenging the remission granted last year to all the 11 convicts in the gang-rape case of Bilkis Bano and murder of seven of her family members during the 2002 post-Godhra Gujarat riots. A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Prashant Kumar Mishra noted, in accordance with its May 9 order, notices have been published in local newspapers, including those in Gujarati and English, against the convicts who could not be served (the notice). The apex court then posted the matter for hearing on July 17 due to paucity of time.

    2 police officials held in Rajasthan for bribery

    A police inspector and a head constable have been arrested by the anti corruption bureau for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh in Jalore district of Rajasthan, officials said on Tuesday. The accused -- Amar Singh, SHO, Karda police station and head constable Prataparam -- were caught red-handed by a team of the anti corruption bureau (ACB) on Monday, they said. The duo had demanded bribe from the complainant for not making him an accused in a case under the Excise Act and for not beating a man taken into custody in connection with the case.

    DGCA analysing special audit report of Go First, says official

    The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is analysing the report of the special audit of grounded Go First, which is undergoing insolvency resolution process, a senior official said on Tuesday. Cash-strapped Go First, which had been flying for more than 17 years, stopped operations from May 3. The official said the watchdog is currently analysing the report of the special audit of Go First. The special audit was done to check the operational preparedness of Go First. The audit, conducted from July 4 to 6, covered facilities of the carrier in Mumbai and Delhi.

    UP: Vande Bharat mows down goats, pelted with stones

    A group of people pelted stones at the Vande Bharat Express near here on Tuesday, cracking its windowpanes as they vented their anger days after the train mowed down a herd of goats, police said. Three men have been arrested in this regard, they said. "The windowpanes of two coaches of the Vande Bharat Express were partially damaged as it passed through Sohawal area of Raunahi police station area here around 9 am on Tuesday," Inspector of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Sonu Kumar Singh said.

    3 illegal coke plants demolished in Meghalaya

    Meghalaya government on Tuesday said it has demolished at least 3 illegal coke plants in West Khasi Hills district in compliance with a high court order and arrested five people involved in running these plants, officials said. “Till Monday, three illegal coke plants have been demolished and more such plants will be demolished by July 20,” a senior government official told PTI. According to the official, the demolition and arrests were made in compliance with the Meghalaya High Court order in December last year.
