    Haryana govt increases sugarcane rate by Rs 10 per quintal

    The Haryana government on Friday decided to increase the sugarcane rate by Rs 10 per quintal to Rs 350 per quintal for the 2020-21 crushing season, an official statement said. According to the statement, this price is the highest in the country.

    Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved a proposal in this regard, it added.

    This increase in the rate of sugarcane will benefit the farmers of Haryana, the statement said.

    The chief minister has also approved the proposal for providing subsidy to the sugarcane farmers for the current crushing season 2020-21 on the pattern of 2018-19 and 2019-20 season.

    Over Rs 81.37 crore for 2018-19 crushing season and over Rs 124.14 crore for 2019-20 up to May 2020, was provided as a subsidy to different sugar mills in the state, the statement said.

    WHO: Vaccine program will get 2 billion doses

    The head of the World Health Organization says its program to help get COVID-19 vaccines to all countries in need, whether rich or poor, has gained access to nearly 2 billion doses of several vaccine candidates.

    WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says the agreements mean that some 190 countries and economies participating in the COVAX program will have access to vaccines “during the first half of next year.”

    The arrangements bring together pharmaceutical makers including AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, and the Serum Institute of India.

    He says the message is “vaccines will complement, not replace, the existing effective tools we have for suppressing transmission and saving lives.”

    Winter chill to continue for a week, slight relief expected later: IMD

    As winter chill grips the plains, the India Meteorological Department on Friday said night temperatures would continue to be below normal in north India over the next week and a slight relief can be expected only a week later.

    In its forecast from December 17-24 and from December 24-30, the IMD said the minimum temperatures would be below normal by 2-6 degrees Celsius over most parts of northwest, central and east India.

    Near normal or slightly above normal temperatures are likely over remaining parts of the country during the first week.

    The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday said all regulated entities will upload 'Know Your Customer' data pertaining to accounts of legal entities opened on or after April 1, 2021, onto the Central KYC Registry (CKYCR).

    Railways aims to increase freight share to 45% by 2030

    Preparing for the demand in future as part of its National Rail Plan, the Indian railways is planning to increase its share in freight movement from 27 per cent now to 45 per cent by 2030, officials said on Friday.
