BJP made inroads in traditional Congress bastion of Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Jorhat, retained the prestigious Gauhati, Nowgong and Mangaldoi seats, wrested Tezpur from AGP, but lost the key Silchar constituency to Congress. 

Congress lost Barpeta and Karimganj (SC) to AIUDF, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, retained Kaliabor and Autonomous District (ST) and wrested Silchar from BJP.

AIUDF's party President Badruddin Ajmal retained Dhubri constituency for a second consecutive term.  In trouble-torn Kokrajhar(ST) constituency, Independent candidate and a former ULFA battalion commander Naba (Hira) Sarania retained the seat by winning by a record margin of 3,55,779 votes.
