Patna: Medical practitioners in Bihar have agreed to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav's demand to charge nominal fees from patients belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL).
The Bihar Health Services Association (BHSA) vice-president Sahajanand Prasad Singh said that the body will soon issue a circular to its members asking to lower their consultation fees.
"A circular will be issued to all the doctors directing them to take less fee from BPL patients. They will also be asked to put a rate list at their clinics or hospitals," he said.
The RJD MP had launched a drive against doctors accusing them of charging ‘exorbitant' fees and questioned why doctors were charging Rs 1,200-1,400 for ultrasound when it could be done at Rs 80 in a government hospital?
He had also organised several 'Nukkad Natak' (street plays) on the issue in his parliamentary constituency, Madhepura, to spread awareness.
