Heavy polling was reported in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, even as moderate to heavy polling was recorded in Maharashtra and Haryana.
According to Election Commission sources, 60 to 62 pc voting was recorded in Maharashtra, marred by Maoist violence in Gadchiroli district, while in Haryana 66 pc voters exercised their franchise. 72 per cent voters cast their vots in Arunachal Pradesh, where polling was by and large peaceful.
Mumbai: The highest polling percentage 71 pc was recorded in Kolhapur, while the lowest 43 pc was in Ulhasnagar. In metropolis Mumbai, 52 pc voters cast their votes. Versova recorded the highest turnout of 62 pc in Mumbai, while 42 pc voted in Bandra West.
Sporadic incidents of violence, bogus voting and violation of code of conduct were reported from some parts of Mumbai during the assembly polls .
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Congress MLA Janardhan Chandurkar for trying to distribute money to lure voters at Bharat Nagar in suburban Bandra, police said, adding that Rs 15,000 have been recovered from his car.
Chandurkar, three-term MLA, who is contesting from Bandra (East) constituency, claimed that the money belonged to his driver and was not meant for distribution among voters.
Chandurkar has filed a counter complaint with police alleging that he was kept in wrongful confinement by a group of persons, additional police commissioner Sanjay Saxena,said.
Wardha recorded 41.14, Chandrapur 44.99, Buldana 44.49, Amravati 44.05, Wasim 37.05, Yevatmal 41.50 and Akola recorded 37.53 percent of voting in Vidharbha region during Maharashtra Assembly polls, sources said.
Chandigarh: Nearly 66 per cent of 1.31 crore voters in Haryana cast their votes, as polling drew to a close for the 90-member Haryana Assembly sealing the fate of 1,222 candidates, including 67 women.
In 2005 assembly polls, the poll percentage was 71.96 per cent. The highest ever poll percentage recorded was 72.65 per cent in 1967, while the lowest was recorded in 1968 when it was 57.26 per cent.
With multi-cornered contest on all the 90 seats, among those whose fate have been sealed in the Electronic Voting Machines include Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, his ministerial colleagues Birender Singh, Kiran Choudhry and Randeep Singh Surjewala, former Chief Minister and INLD president Om Prakash Chautala, INLD's secretary general Ajay Chautala and the chiefs of state units of the BJP and BSP besides the Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) supremo Kuldeep Bishnoi.
Itanagar: An estimated 72 per cent of the electorate cast their votes peacefully in the election to 57 of the 60-seats in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly.
Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and two other Congress candidates have already been elected unopposed from the three seats in Tawang district.
"Around 70 per cent turnout was recorded but the final percentage will be available when reports from remote areas reach here, which might take a day or two," Chief Electoral Officer Yeshi Tsering said.
The percentage in the 2004 assembly elections had been 67.83. The elections were peaceful save for reports of disturbance and damage to EVMs from four booths -- two in Ziro-Hapoli and one in Chayang-Tojo and another at Palin, he said. A report would be sent to the Election Commission which might order repolling, he said. PTI
