Jammu, May 11: With the Bhaderwah-Doda belt rattled by a series of tremors in recent days, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has put on alert its 100 field units to meet any exigency in the area.



“All field units have been put on alert and have been directed to act as rescue teams in case of any unforeseen situation and exigency”, a police spokesman said today.  

The field units comprise police stations, police posts, operation groups, minority pickets and VDCs.  

Besides reserve units have been kept at three places of Bhaderwah, Gandoh and District headquarters Doda to supplement any possible rescue operations, he said.

Bhaderwah-Doda-Kishtwar belt has witnessed 21 tremors over a week with maximum 11 on May one. While one tremor struck in Bhaderwah on April 31, 11 on May one, 3 on May 2 and one on May 3, one on May 5 and 2 on May 6 and 2 on May 8.  

Two persons were killed and 69 others injured, including 26 students and 3 teachers in the tremors that shook Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir.  

The administration is, meanwhile, providing assistance to those rendered homeless by the tremors.  

Twenty tin sheets each have been provided to 25 families rendered homeless.
