NIA likely to chargesheet controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik today

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) is likely to file a 50-page chargesheet against controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in its special court in Mumbai on Thursday for his alleged role in terror funding and money laundering cases.

The absconding Islamic televangelist has already been declared a 'proclaimed offender' by a special court.

The 51-year-old, who left the country early in 2016, is charged with spreading hatred through provocative speeches, terror funding and money-laundering, among others.

The NIA had lodged a criminal case against Naik in Mumbai, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on November 18 last year.
