In Dadri area of Uttar Pradesh, over suspicion of cow slaughter, Akhlaq was lynched by a mob in September 2015.

The slain cop's wife said justice would be done only when his killers are killed.

"He worked with complete honesty and took all the responsibility on himself. This is not the first incident. He suffered bullet injury twice before. But now nobody is giving him justice. Justice will be done only if his killers are killed," the wailing wife said.

Meanwhile, reports have also emerged that Singh was shot by his own revolver. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this so far.

Subodh Kumar was killed in Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday after violence broke out in the aftermath of an alleged case of cow slaughter, police said.

Senior police officials have rushed to the crime scene to contain the violence, which threatens peace in the entire region.

According to information, members of several Hindu groups with an alleged cow carcass gathered on the Bulandshahr-Syana road and pelted stones at the police personnel.

The Hindu Yuva Vahini and Bajrang Dal activists also vandalized vehicles and attacked police officials. They torched several passing vehicles.

In the violence, Inspector Subodh Singh of Syana police station and four constables were injured. The profusely bleeding inspector was rushed to the Aurangabad community health centre (CHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
