Varanasi: Violent clash between BHU students, junior doctors injures 6

The students allegedly destroyed at least a police booth, ATM and two motorbikes. They also burnt university property at Birla, Ruiya and Dhanvantri hostels. Half a dozen students were injured in stone pelting.

A day after clash between ABVP workers and female students observing the first anniversary of police lathicharge, Banaras Hindu University witnessed another round violence late on Monday night. A clash broke out between junior doctors and students which led to arson and stone pelting. At leats six students were injured in the incident. 

According to sources, the clash broke out after a debate between on-call doctor and students over availability of a bed for a patient. A Chandoli-resident had to come to the university hospital for a surgery, but after the on-call doctor told him that the bed was not available, the patients' friends (students) started creating ruckus. Soon the debate broke into violence.

The tension prevailed on the campus throughout the night, till Tuesday morning. A thick security cover has been deployed in the university. Local Dm and SSP have taken out flag march in the affected area.
