Lucknow: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Saturday released a list of 22 fake universities, out of which eight are from Uttar Pradesh, an official said.  

 

The universities included in the list were Gurukul University (Vrindavan), Mahila Gram Vidyapeeth (Allahabad), Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth (Allahabad), National University of Electro Complex Homoeopathy (Kanpur), Indraprastha Education Council (Noida), Varanaseya Sanskrit University (Varanasi) and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Open University (Aligarh).

In a public notice on 'Fake Universities' posted on its website, it said that section 23 of the UGC Act prohibits the use of word University by institutions other than established by norms.

UGC informed that these institutions have been declared as 'Fake Universities' and are not entitled to confer degrees.
