Giving an emotional touch to the party’s support to the Muslim women on Triple Talaq issue, the BJP today said that the women of the Muslim community have nothing to worry about when they have a brother like Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"I want to say this to all Muslim women that when they have a brother like Narendra Modi, they do not need to be afraid of anyone," BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said in Lok Sabha while participating in the debate on the Triple Talaq Bill that the government introduced in the House today.

Lekhi further pointed out that the women are the biggest minority in this country and that’s why they have been oppressed adding that it’s high time to do away with practices that oppress women.

"Talaq-e-biddat has nothing to do with religion. It is customary," she added.

The government today introduced the Triple Talaq Bill in parliament that criminalises triple talaq with provision for three years of imprisonment for the offenders.
