Third ‘US-India Dosti Day’: US highlights India’s leap on Global Competitiveness Index

Recognising that the relationship between the two countries is ‘a special and permanent bond’, the United States and India are today celebrating the third ‘US-India Partnership Day’.

“Happy #USIndiaDosti Day! Today, September 30, marks the third annual 'U.S.-India Partnership Day’,” US Embassy India tweeted. 

“We are encouraged to see India’s leap on World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Competitiveness Index,” it said in another tweet. 

India climbed 16 places to the 39th rank in the latest Global Competitiveness Report prepared by the WEF. The jump in India's position in the index underlines the country's recent economic recovery, improvement in the competitiveness of the country's institutions and its macro economic environment and improvement in infrastructure.

The two largest democracies in the world, India and US, have come closer everyday by backing each other on several issues and displaying an extra ordinary respect.

The US Senate had in 2014 unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution designating September 30 as 'US-India Partnership Day', underlining the contribution of both countries to one another. 

Introduced by Senators Mark Warner of Democratic Party and John Cornyn from Republican, the resolution had said that the Indo-US relationship will continue to help define the 21st century.

The 2014 general elections was the largest in Indian history, proving that democracy in India is as strong as it is encompassing of its religious, ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural diversity, the resolution had said.

The Indo-US relationship has reached new height under Barack Obama and Narendra Modi administration as the two countries have together taken crucial steps in areas like economy, defence, energy etc.
