The Supreme Court on Monday directed the transport department to announce that 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles will not be allowed to ply in the national capital region (NCR). The top court further said such vehicles will be impounded if found plying.

The prevailing situation of pollution in Delhi-NCR region was described as ‘very critical’ by the apex court.

The list of 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old vehicles will be available on the website of Central Pollution Control Board and transport department of NCR, it said.

According to the Supreme Court order, a social media account will also be prepared by the CPCB, which will allow the citizens to complain about pollution.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had earlier banned 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles in Delhi-NCR.
