Normal life in Jammu and Kashmir was adversely affected in view of a protest shutdown called by separatists across the Valley on Monday. The shutdown by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik was called against the killings of five militants and a civilian in Chowgam village of Kulgam district on Saturday.

Security arrangements have been put in place as police and Centre Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in Srinagar city, along with other sensitive places in the Valley.

Shops, public transport, other businesses and educational institutions remained closed in Srinagar and the district headquarters of the Valley.

Non-availability of public transport in Srinagar and other places resulted in low attendance in banks and post offices.

Exams in all universities, that were previously scheduled for Monday have been postponed.

Train services between the Valley and Bannihal town of Jammu region have also been suspended in view of the shutdown.
