Security forces on Monday morning foiled an infiltration bid from across near Dulanja area of border town Uri in Jammu and Kashmir by killing at least six terrorists.
Defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said a group of militants was spotted infiltrating from Pakistan into India. The infiltrating militants opened fire at the forces, ensuing into a fierce gun battle that left five militants dead.
All the fidayeen attackers were of Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), Shesh Paul Vaid, DGP, J&K Police said in a tweet.
"Keep up the good work," he lauded the forces.
Vaid added that the terrorists were gunned down during a joint operation by the state police personnel, Army and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
Meanwhile, sources told India TV that all the terrorists were on a secret mission to assassinate J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti.
Police officials informed that arms and ammunition were recovered from them, while operation to sanitize the area was still underway.
Last week, government intelligence sources had said that the Indian Army killed 138 Pakistan Army personnel in 2017 in tactical operations and retaliatory cross-border firings along the Line of Control (LoC) in the border state.
On the other hand, Indian Army gunned down at least seven Pakistani Rangers soldiers in retaliatory firing along Line of Control (LoC) in the forward areas in Poonch district.
