RSS worker shot dead in UP’s Ghazipur

A Rashtriya Swayamsewal Sangh (RSS) worker was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants today in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district. According to police, the deceased person has been identified as Rajesh Mishra (35).

Mishra was also a journalist and had written many articles against mafias active in the region. He was working with Hindi daily Dainik Jagran. 

Police said that Mishra was sitting at his brother Amitesh’s shop in the Karansa area when the incident took place. Amitesh (30) sustained serious injuries in the attack. 

Police said that Mishra was shot in his head. When his brother Amitesh intervened, he was shot in the abdomen.

The duo were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by locals and passers-by. While Mishra was declared brought dead, Amitesh was admitted to the hospital. Amitesh’s condition is said to be critical. 

A senior police official said that Rajesh was an active RSS member and was also working as a contractor. 

In Lucknow, ADG Law and Order Anand Kumar said that that two of the attackers have been identified. 

"Of the three assailants, two have been identified, and soon all of them will be arrested," he said.
