Jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh today moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging special CBI court’s order which had sentenced him to 20-year jail in connection with two different rape cases.

Ram Rahim has already appealed against the actual conviction. Today's appeal is against his punishment and not against his conviction. In today’s petition, Ram Rahim has prayed for a lesser sentence.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court is likely to hear his appeal next week.

A special CBI court had convicted Ram Rahim for rape of two female disciples in 1999. He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of over Rs 30 lakh.

The development comes days after two women, who were raped by Ram Rahim, moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding his punishment be extended to a life term.
