Two jawans martyred, 1 injured as militants attack CRPF patrolling party in Srinagar

Two CRPF jawans were martyred and one was injured in an attack by militants on a vehicle of the paramilitary force near Pantha chowk bypass here today.

Militants fired upon CRPF deployment near Pantha chowk bypass around 1750 hours, causing bullet injuries to a jawan and the driver of the vehicle. 

CRPF personnel retaliated in the same capacity but there was no immediate report of any casualty on the militant side. “The militants fired at the vehicle from one side of the road injuring three CRPF men,” Inspector General (IG) Operations of the CRPF in Kashmir, Zulfiqar Hassan said.

The injured have been shifted the Army’s 92 base hospital, Hassan informed.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a search operation was launched to track down the militants. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. 

Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway has been closed after the attack.
