A day after an explosion rocked the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train, a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today reached Bhopal to look into the case, suspected to be a terror attack.

Official sources said that NIA officials may visit the site of the blast near Jabri railway station under Shajapur district, about 60 kms from Bhopal.

They said that the NIA officials will interact with Madhya Pradesh police personnel and verify leads available with them to ascertain whether the explosion was a terror attack.

Earlier this morning, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan confirmed that the explosion in the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train was a handiwork of ISIS operatives.

He even said that after planting the pipe bomb terrorists uploaded its photograph and sent it to their handlers in Syria.

“We have proof of the involvement of ISIS,” Chouhan said.

The explosion occurred in a general coach of the train between 9.30 am and 10 am on Tuesday, when it was on its way to Ujjain from Bhopal near Jabdi station.

Yesterday, state Home Minister Bhupendra Singh had said that initial investigation suggested that the blast was a terror attack and investigation was underway to unravel the conspiracy behind the incident.

Madhya Pradesh Inspector General (Intelligence) Makrand Deoskar had said the blast was carried out ‘by planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)’.
