New Delhi: Farzana, the widow of former National Investigation Agency (NIA) Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Tanzil Ahmed, succumbed to injuries today at AIIMS here. She breathed her last at 11:10 am.

Doctors treating Farzana at Noida’s Fortis Hospital had on Monday referred her to AIIMS after she remained critical. Upon her arrival at AIIMS, doctors put Farzana on ventilators as her health deteriorated further.

"Our doctors are closely monitoring the patient and are doing their best. The condition of the patient however continues to be critical," Fortis officials had said in a medical bulletin at the time of shifting Farzana to AIIMS.

Ahmed, probing terror cases related to Indian Mujahideen, was shot dead on April 3 by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants who also wounded his wife when they were returning home from a wedding in Bijnor. Ahmed's 16-year-old daughter Zimnish and 14-year-old son Shahbaaz, however, escaped unhurt in the incident.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Police yesterday claimed to crack the murder case with the arrest of two persons. Police said that domestic dispute was the reason behind the crime.

According to IG (Bareilly Zone) Vijay Kumar Meena, nephew of Ahmed's brother-in-law Rehan and his accomplice Zainul have been arrested and hunt is on to nab the mastermind Muneer.
