Even after the monsoon season of 2018 ended, the country has received very little rainfall compared to normal but new year 2019 can witness rain in the starting.
The Meteorological Department has estimated that on the first day of New Year, most of the states in northern India can receive rainfall.
According to the Meteorological Department, the lower regions of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir can have snowfall on January 1 and January 2.
On January 1, there is a possibility of slight rain in some places in Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh. Rainfall will also result in a decrease in temperature, along with benefit to Rabi Crops in North India.
According to the Meteorological Department, on January 1, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh can witness dense fog.
Apart from these, mercury may fall below in Rajasthan, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand.
During the monsoon season this year, the country has received less rainfall compared to the average and after the monsoon season has passed, there was even less rainfall recorded.
According to the Meteorological Department, the post-monsoon season has recorded 44% less rainfall than normal in the country from October 1 to December 30.
During this period, eastern, north-eastern and Central India has received 51 percent less rainfall while in north-western India 44 percent less has been recorded.
The southern peninsula has received 36 percent less rainfall. If North India receives rainfall in the beginning of the new year, it can be beneficial for Rabi crops.
