The Supreme Court on Thursday took cognizance of the alleged victims of sexual assault at a shelter home run by a state-funded NGO in Muzaffarpur district and sought the response of Centre and Bihar government in the case.

The matter was taken up by a bench of Justices MB Lokur and Deepak Gupta, who expressed concern on the fact that the alleged victims in the case were subjected to media interviews several times.

The Supreme Court bench also restrained the electronic media from telecasting images of the alleged rape victims, even in a morphed form.

Asking the media to not interview the rape victims, the bench said the victims cannot be forced to narrate and relive the trauma again and again.

The Supreme Court said the help of qualified child psychiatrist and professional councillors would be taken by the probing agency, for questioning the victims.

The top court also directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a forensic examination of the shelter home in Muzaffarpur.

The case will next be heard on August 7.
