Uttar Pradesh Government has changed the name of the Mugahalsarai Railway Junction and now it would be called Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction.

The Centre had approved the UP governments proposal after the UP government informed the governor about the same in 2017. This was done to revive the legacy of Pandit Upadhyaya. However, the opposition protested about it in the parliament.

Uttar Pradesh government has also released a notification stating that Mughal Sarai Junction has been renamed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction.

It is noteworthy to mention that Pandit Upadhyaya was found dead on this junction in 1968 under suspicious circumtances.

The Mugahalsarai junction was built by the Britishers in the 1860s to connect New Delhi to Kolkata and is the fourth busiest railway junction in India.
