Fugitive diamantaire and Punjab National Bank scam accused Mehul Choksi has written to a special anti-money laundering court expressing his inability to join the probe in the case claiming that he is unfit to take hours long flight back to India from Antigua.
Accusing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of deliberately not disclosing his health condition, Choksi said he is ready to settle the case.
"Can't travel for 41 hours to reach India due to poor health. The Enforcement Directorate is misleading probe by not revealing my health condition deliberately," Choksi said, adding that he was in constant touch with the banks who have alleged that he vanished with their money.
Choksi also submitted in the court that he has expressed his willingness to join the investigation through video conferencing.
Choksi and designer diamond jewellery businessman Nirav Modi and others are facing investigation after PNB filed a complaint earlier this year that they allegedly cheated the nationalised bank to the tune of Rs 12,000 crore.
Choksi has been last reported to be in the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda.
A Red Corner notice was issued against Choksi earlier this month. The notice was issued following a request by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is probing PNB scam along with Enforcement Directorate and other agencies.
