Prepared to contest bypolls alone: Akhilesh Yadav

"If the coalition has broken, I will reflect deeply on it and if the coalition isn't there in the by-elections, then Samajwadi Party will prepare for the elections. SP will also fight on all 11 seats alone," Akhilesh said.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said that he is prepared to contest Assembly bye-elections alone and his party will contest on all 11 seats where polls are to be held.

"If the coalition has broken, I will reflect deeply on it and if the coalition isn't there in the by-elections, then Samajwadi Party will prepare for the elections. SP will also fight on all 11 seats alone," Akhilesh told the reporters.

He, however, avoided commenting on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati's statement

Akhilesh's reaction comes hour after Mayawati confirmed that the BSP would go solo in the upcoming by-polls in Uttar Pradesh.

"It's not a permanent break. If we feel in future that the SP chief [Akhilesh Yadav] succeeds in his political work, we'll again work together. But if he doesn't succeed, it'll be good for us to work separately. So we've decided to fight the by-polls," Mayawati, while addressing the media, said.

She, however, added her relationship with Akhilesh was beyond politics.

The SP-BSP alliance had won 15 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh of which the BSP had got 10 seats and SP was left with five seats.
