New Delhi: In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court of India has expanded the horizon of right to self-defence and ruled that person would be right in taking the law into his hands if he witnessed his parents or relatives being assaulted, according to Times of India.
The apex court verdict overturned the ruling of the Rajasthan High court which had earlier upheld decision of the trial court that convicted two persons for assaulting some of their neighbours in the villagers and and sentenced them to two years' rigorous imprisonment.
The bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh also observed that police failed to point out why the two had resorted to assault and how they had so many injury marks on their bodies.
