New Delhi: In the latest in a series of developments to have rocked the JNU campus following an event organised at the campus to commemorate the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, a high-level internal committee of the Jawaharlal Nehru University today issued show-cause notices to 21 of its students including Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya.

The committee’s report said that the students were found guilty of violating the unviersity’s rules and norms and that there were standard provisions in the university rules to act in such cases.

In a report submitted to the JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, the students were charged for violating university norms and rules.

The committee was set up on February 11 to probe the matter related to "anti-India" sloganeering at the JNU.

The ABVP had earlier demanded an early release of the report of the high-level enquiry committee probing the JNU issue.

On February 9, a cultural event was organised at the JNU to commemorate the hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. During the event, anti-India slogans were allegedly raised, following which JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on February 12. He was released on an interim bail for six months by the Delhi High Court.

Two other sedition accused university students – Umar Khalid and Anirban – are under judicial custody and have been sent to Tihar jail.
