Jharkhand: 11 jawans injured after Naxals trigger IED blast in Saraikela; evacuation underway

The process of evacuation was underway and the 11 injured jawans were airlifted to Ranchi for treatment.

Eight CoBRA personnel and 3 personnel of the Jharkhand police were injured after an Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), carried out by Naxals,  exploded in Jharkhand's Saraikela region early on Tuesday. The incident was reported from Kuchai area at around 4:53 am, while the troops were out on special operations. 

The process of evacuation was underway and the 11 injured jawans were airlifted to Ranchi for treatment. 

The joint team was being led by the 209th battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the Central Reserve Police Force deployed in the state for anti-Naxal operations, officials said.

Earlier on May 21, two District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel were injured after Naxals detonated an IED in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district. The incident took place near Gogunda village, located around 500 kms, when a joint team of security men was out on an anti-Naxal operation. 

The patrolling team, comprising personnel from the DRG and the Special Task Force, was cordoning off a forest at a hill near Gogunda, when the ultras triggered the IED blast.
