A Border Security Force (BSF) officer on Tuesday was killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad succumbed to his injuries in firing from across the border in Hiranagar sector, Kathua.

Pakistan violated ceasefire in Sunderbani Sector of Jammu and Kashmir, resorting to heavy firing, a Defence Ministry spokesman said.

"At 10 a.m., the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation using small arms and shelling with heavy calibre weapons in the Sunderbani sector," Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand told media in Jammu.

"The Indian Army is retaliating strongly and effectively," he added. The firing was still on.
