A five-storey building today collapsed near Bellandur Behrampada in Bandra East in Mumbai at around 1 pm. 

Rescue operations are underway. Five fire engines, one rescue van and one ambulance have been sent to the spot and search operation is going on, said fire brigade officials.

Five people have been rescued so far.

The reason behind the collapse has not been determined yet.

According to officials, some people may be trapped under the rubble but no one was found under the debris in the search operation till 3 pm. 

Two girls are reportedly trapped according to eye-witnesses present at the spot, said a fire officer. 

Disaster management officials have said that one person has been injured and has been taken to Bhabha hospital. More details are awaited.

No causalities have been reported as of now.

The incident follows similar accidents in Mumbai in the recent past. Eight people lost their lives in August this year when a dilapidated building collapsed in Bhiwandi near Mumbai. At least 23 people were reported injured in the accident. 

In April this year, six people were killed and two others suffered injuries after a three-storeyed building on RS Nimkar Marg in Kamathipura collapsed.
