Earthquake measuring 7.0 on Richter scale hits Myanmar, tremors felt in Delhi, NCR, Kolkata

New Delhi: A strong earthquake rocked the Northern region of India today. Strong tremors were also felt in North-east as well. The earthquake that measured 6.8 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre on the

New Delhi: A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale today hit Myanmar, initial reports from the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said today. The earthquake occurred at 7.25 PM.

According to the EMSC, the epicentre was 170 km northwest of Mandalay.

Tremors of the earthquake were also felt in parts of eastern and northern India. There were reports of tremors being felt in the cities of Kolkata, Patna, Guwahati, Delhi and NCR.

Mild tremors were also felt in parts of Uttarakhand and Rajasthan as well.

The earthquake had its epicentre on the India-Myanmar border.

Tremors were felt in New Delhi, NCR, Patna. In the north-eastern part of India, Kolkata and Guwahati were shaken up. The National Centre for Seismology, however, said that the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.8 on the Richter scale.

People in Kolkata were seen rushing out of their homes fearing an aftershock.

One has been reported dead till yet in Guwahati while seven have been hospitalized in Manipur.

At least 10-12 people suffered minor injuries in north Bengal. While some of them fell on the stairs in their mad rush to come out of buildings, a few others tripped while running on the streets.

Four-five people were injured in the north Bengal town of Siliguri in Darjeeling district. At least seven others sustained injuries in nearby Jalpaiguri district.

Some of the injured were taken to hospital in Siliguri and sent home after first aid.

The tremors felt at 7.25 p.m. snapped communication (mobile and landline) connectivity.
