Delhi wakes up to drizzle and thunderstorm

On Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the country is likely to have 'near normal' monsoon this year with a well distributed rainfall which could be beneficial for the agriculture sector.

The Delhi-NCR witnessed relief from the rising mercury as it received some rain on Tuesday morning. 

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was 38.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while the minimum was 21.8 degrees Celsius, one point above normal. On Monday, it was 37 degrees Celsius.

In another related development, MeT department in Lucknow said moderate thunderstorm and lightning/dust storm accompanied with winds/rain are very likely to occur on Tuesday during next 3 hrs (valid up to 10 AM) over Baghpat, Meerut, Hapur, Amroha, Muzaffarnagar, Lalitpur, Unnao, Hardoi, Sitapur, Lucknow, Raebareli districts and adjoining areas.

The seasonal rainfall is likely to be 96 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA) with a model error of plus or minus five per cent, Secretary Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) M Rajeevan said, reported PTI.
