Delhi: AAP intensifies protest against L-G on Day 5 , Kejriwal to launch door-to-door campaign

Kejriwal, in a video released from the Lt Governor's office, asked the party workers to do a similar campaign like the one they did over electricity bills.

The sit-in protest by the AAP leaders entered Day 5 on Friday. The sit-in protest by the AAP leaders entered Day 5 on Friday.

With the ongoing political crisis in the national capital showing no signs of resolve, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced to launch a door-to-door campaign after Sunday if the Centre continues to remain silent over the party's demands.

Kejriwal, in a video released from the Lt Governor's office, asked the party workers to do a similar campaign like the one they did over electricity bills.

"After Sunday, if there is no response on our demands, go door-to-door and bring sign of at least 10 lakh families. We will forward it to the Prime Minister. He is not responding on my demand, so the people of Delhi will ask him," Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal along with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Cabinet ministers Satyendar Jain and Gopal Rai, have been camping in the Raj Niwas, the official accommodation-cum-office of LG Anil Baijal since Monday evening. They continued for a fifth consecutive day on Friday.

They have been demanding a direction to the IAS officers working in the Delhi administration to end their undeclared strike, action against officers who have struck work for "four months" and approval to his government's proposal for doorstep delivery of ration to the poor.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had warned of a protest at the Prime Minister's residence on Sunday if their demands were not met.

Kejriwal also said that he was expecting the LG to approve his demand in sometime, but was "astonished to see the IAS strike is still on".

"We wrote to the LG, texted him. We wrote to the Prime Minister. Why has the Prime Minister not ordered the officers to call off their strike. On the other hand, BJP members are protesting to support the officers' strike," Kejriwal added.

He accused the Prime Minister for taking revenge from the people of Delhi.

"Our government has done so much in the past three years, which is difficult for them (the Bharatiya Janata Party) to explain. They are in power in Madhya Pradesh from the past 15 years, in Gujarat from past 30 years. As they are not able to do developmental work in their states, they want to stop us," Kejriwal added

The AAP convenor also said that he was not sitting there demanding something for himself or his children.

"I am also not sitting here for AC or sofa. I have it in my house. If you feel I am sitting here for my comfort, go and try to sleep on sofa for four days. We are here for Delhi, for its people," he added.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Sanjay Singh who met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the Centre has agreed to take up the current situation in Delhi with the Lt. Governor and find a solution to the row over governance.

The Delhi unit leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday began an indefinite fast against the sit-in protest by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues at the Lieutenant Governor's residence.

"West Delhi BJP MP Pravesh Singh Saheb Verma, Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and I have decided to start an indefinite hunger strike from today (Friday)," suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kapil Mishra told repoters.

He said the BJP MPs and the legislators have sat on hunger strike in the Delhi Secretariat since morning over the acute water shortage in several areas of the national capital.

Mishra also said they have written a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind, urging him to intervene and direct Kejriwal over the constitutional crisis.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari described Kejriwal as an actor, who scripts a play and does the lead role and accused him of acting as a "pawn for anti-national elements".

"Kejriwal is a big actor. He writes the script, directs the play and himself plays the lead role," Tiwari told media here.

Attacking the chief minister, Tiwari said that after being in power for over three and half years, suddenly he remembers that Delhi has not got full statehood.

"People of Delhi are suffering due to the acute water shortage, while he is sitting in an airconditioned room.

"He is just doing drama," Tiwari said.

The BJP leader also said that the AAP leader has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to divert the attention of the people from the real issues of power and water shortage.

Earlier in the day, senior Congress member and former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit advised Kejriwal to approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demand full statehood instead of protesting.

"The demand for full statehood can only be made in Parliament as it is the sole authority to change the Constitution,", Dikshit told reporters in New Delhi at a press conference.
