Proposal to conduct a survey on infrastructural lacunae in Delhi-NCR was cleared by the Delhi cabinet on Tuesday, with its main focus on the safety of women in public areas. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Delhi Chief Minster Arvind Kejriwal. A survey of the infrastructural lacunae in Delhi-NCR with a focus on women safety will be undertaken by the Delhi government.
In a statement, the Delhi cabinet said the survey will be conducted by 'Safetipin' organisation, which has the specialised skill set and prior experience.
Others who would actively be involved in the survey include various key stakeholders like the transport department, Public Works Department (PWD), municipal corporations, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and educational institutions.
The cabinet sought a detailed report on the previous survey, including the list of black spots and how many lights were installed following the survey, the statement said.
A second round of audits would be conducted by Safetipin to assess the on-ground improvement.
"At the core of the app is the safety audit. A safety audit is a participatory tool for collecting and assessing information about perceptions of urban safety in public spaces," the statement added.
Two applications - My Safetipin for crowd sourced data and Safetipin Nite to collect night time pictures of the city, would be required to collect large-scale data of the streets and public spaces of the city in this process.
The audit is based on nine parameters: lighting - level of brightness on the streets, openness - in how many directions can one see, visibility - how visible is one to others, people - how many other pedestrians are around, security - the presence of private security of police, walkpath - the condition of the walkpath and footpath among other factors.
