A person called up Delhi Police on Wednesday to warn about an alleged plot to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to a report in Times of India, the call was made around 11.30pm from a cell phone number issued to one Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Burari.

The report adds that the caller had claimed to have overheard some people talking about killing Modi.

However, the call location was traced to Dilshad Colony. When the police team visited the call location, a shop, they found nobody.

When Delhi Police interrogated Dinesh, he said that he had lent his SIM card to a relative. When this relative was questioned, he said that a stranger had walked up to him outside an eatery and borrowed his phone to make an urgent call.

According to the TOI report, the eatery owner has confirmed this version to Delhi Police.

The Special Cell and Crime Branch are making further investigation in this case.

The report adds that Delhi Police suspect the call to be hoax but they are not taking any chances the PM had himself talked about a threat to his life at a rally in Goa recently.
