Officials of Boarder Security Force and Pakistan Rangers today met to discuss measures to de-escalate tensions along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in the troubled state of  Jammu and Kashmir.

According to news agency ANI, a sector commander-level flag meeting between BSF and Pakistan Rangers took place in Suchetgarh area -- a village in RS Pura sector, during which the Indian officials strongly objected to the shelling from across the border.

“A Sector Commander level flag meeting was held between Border Security Force & Pakistan Rangers on International Border in Suchetgarh area. BSF objected to snipping of two BSF Soldiers on 3&7 Jan and unprovoked firing and shelling,” ANI tweeted.

The meeting between the two boarder guarding forces of India and Pakistan comes close on the heels of intense firing and shelling by Pakistani troops in last few days.

Intense shelling by Pakistan since January 17 has left nearly 60 people injured and forced thousands of people to flee their homes and take shelter in rehabilitation camps or with their relatives.

During the cross-border firing, 6 Indian jawans (2 BSF and 4 Indian Army) were martyred and 7 civilians were killed. According to Indian officials, Indian soldiers had killed at least 10 Pakistani Rangers personnel in retaliatory firing along border areas in last week. Besides, Pakistan suffered huge loss and several posts of Pakistani Army were also destroyed.

In the first 18 days of 2018, Pakistan has violated ceasefire more than 100 times. As a result, Indian jawans have killed 27 Pakistani soldiers along the border in Jammu and Kashmir. On January 3, Indian Army jawans gunned down 10 Pakistani soldiers while  7 more were neutralised on January 15.
