New Delhi: Nothing could be more painful for a family than to see the mortal remains of their daughter right in front of their eyes.

Family members of 19-year-old Tarishi Jain, who was among the 20 hostages killed in the gruesome Dhaka attack, had to live through their nightmare as their daughter's body arrived today in Delhi.

In a move aimed at consoling the bereaved family, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has written a heartfelt letter to her father Sanjeev Jain, consoling him over the biggest loss of his life.

"Extremely saddened to know of your loss. This is an unfortunate incident that defies humanity," she wrote.

"I am aware that this is an extremely difficult time for the family, but in life, there are several incidents which are beyond our control," she added.

Here’s the letter:

Tarishi, studying in the US, had come home for summer vacations. She had gone to Holey Artisan Bakery with her two friends on Friday evening when the terrorists launched the attack.

Both her friends Abinta Kabir and Faraaz Hossain were also killed.

Sanjeev Jain, her father, runs a garment business in Dhaka.
