Arun Jaitley has been re-assigned the finance and corporate affairs portfolios after a three-month break during which he underwent a surgery. Jaitley, 65, took charge at the North Block office at 11 am today. Soon after resuming work, Arun Jaitley held a meeting with his department officials, including Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia.

The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Shri Arun Jaitley, a press statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhawan said.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal was given additional charge of the finance ministry in Jaitley's absence. During the health break, Jaitley, however, continued to hold meetings through video conferencing with department officials.

Arun Jaitley had attended parliament earlier this month to participate in voting for the election of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. He has been leader of Rajya Sabha since 2000.
