Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav handed over the keys of the official bungalow allotted to him to the concerned authorities on Friday night. However, when officials and media teams visited the palatial building on Saturday they were shocked to see its condition.

The Supreme Court had on May 7 ruled that Uttar Pradesh chief ministers cannot retain government accommodation after demitting office. Following the decision,  Akhilesh vacated the 4-Vikramaditya Marg earlier this week but the keys of the property were handed over to the estate department officials only on Friday (June 8).

If the officials are to be believed, several costly items were missing from the bungalow.

From imported Turkish tiles in the swimming pool, Italian marble from floors, ACs, imported ceiling and garden lights to bathroom fittings, all were found missing.

The bungalow was renovated at the cost of over Rs 45 crore in 2016 and was decorated with articles picked by Akhilesh Yadav and family personally.

However, the Samajwadi Party has rubbished reports about the CMs bungalow being left in shambles and said that there was an attempt to tarnish Yadav's image as his popularity was continuously growing after the party's success in recent bypolls in the state.

"This is an attempt by the government of Yogi Adityanath to misguide the people of the state and tarnish the image of Akhilesh Yadav," SP spokesperson Sunil Singh Sajan said.
