4.8 magnitude earthquake hits northwestern Jammu and Kashmir, no casualties reported

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale hit shook the northwestern parts of the Jammu and Kashmir region. No casualty or property damage has been reported as of now.

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale hit shook the northwestern parts of the Jammu and Kashmir region. No casualty or property damage has been reported as of now. 

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake hit at 8:14am on Monday.

The latest geological mapping in the Himalayan mountains of the state suggests that Jammu and Kashmir may be hit by major earthquake of magnitude 8 or greater, which will put millions of lives in danger. 

Another moderate intensity earthquake of magnitude 4.0 had hit parts of Gujarat’s Kutch district on Sunday. 

The quake occurred near Rapar and tremors were also felt in the nearby Bachau town.

On March 4, similar moderate intensity earthquakes India’s had hit Manipur’s Chandel district, but no casualties were reported.
