The area is under heavy security after a Colonel of the Indian Army's Rashtriya Rifles, an army Major and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) on Wednesday were killed during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Kokernag area of the Anantnag district. The officers — Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonack of 19 RR and DySP Muhammad Humayn Muzamil Bhat of the Jammu and Kashmir Police — have been killed by LeT terrorists.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police today (September 14) said it has encircled two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists including Uzair Khan, who on Wednesday killed three security officers, in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.

"In the Anantnag encounter, joint security forces operations are continuing against a group of 2-3 terrorists hiding there. The security forces including the Army and local police are being provided support by small quadcopters and larger drones to keep an eye on the entire area. The Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen Rajeev Ghai and Rashtriya Rifles’ Victor Force commander Major Gen Balbir Singh have already visited the encounter site to boost the morale of troops in operations," said Indian Army officials.
