J&K: Lashkar associate arrested in Bandipora

Bandipora police said that according to the information received, they started to conduct a Naka inspection in Knusa Town on Monday and arrested the criminals.

Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a suspected terrorist from the Terrorist Task Force (TRF) during a raid on the town of Kainusa in Bandipora district on Tuesday. TRF is an offshoot of proscribed Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. The development comes from the Jammu and Kashmir police's arrest of three suspected terrorists from a banned group from Srinagar, which they say are seeking to carry out "criminal activities" in the city.

Bandipora police said that according to the information received, they started to conduct a Naka inspection in Knusa Town on Monday and arrested the criminals. After further investigation, the police said they recovered one hand grenade from his possession.

"Bandipora police captured one terror associate of the TRF outfit yesterday alongside one hand grenade during naka checking at Kehnusa Bandipora," Bandipora Police said in an explanation.

Following the occurrence, an FIR was filed at the Bandipora police station. Further examination is in progress. After the earlier arrests in Srinagar, the police informed the public through a statement that the triplet was "planning to carry out terrorist activities".

Police said they recovered three hand grenades, 10 pistol rounds, 25 AK-47 rounds, and other implicating materials from the accused. The arrests were made by a team of Srinagar Police.

Also, according to the police, the terrorists arrested are Imran Ahmad Najar, a resident of Baramulla, Bulbul Bagh; Waseem Ahmad Matta, a resident of Srinagar, Kamalwari; and Wakeel Ahmed Bhat.

"A team of Srinagar Police arrested three terrorist associates connected with restricted terror outfit TRF, an offshoot of proscribed terror outfit LeT, in the Natipora area of Srinagar," the police had said.

Following up on a hint, a team of Srinagar police set up a designated spot at Hannibal Natipora and captured the trio, the statement further informed. Police said Wakeel Ahmad Bhat is a terrorist affiliated with the Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK), spent two years in prison, and later got out of jail.

During the investigation, police said they found the trio collecting explosives and ammunition from terrorists at TRF to "conduct terrorist activities in Srinagar city". Chanapora Police Station charged three criminals under Sections 3 and 4 of the Penal Code, Section 25 of the Arms Act, and Sections 18, 23, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
