An Indian Army personnel sustained injuries in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Sunday (October 15), a police official said.

The personnel was identified as Rifleman Gurucharan Singh who was on patrol duty when he accidently stepped over the landmine in the forward Kalsian village in Nowshera sector, the official said.

He was rushed to a nearby military hospital and given first aid, after which he was airlifted to Command Hospital Udhampur for specialised treatment, the official added.

The army is using landmines to plug the possible infiltration routes to stop armed terrorists from crossing over the border, as part of the counter-infiltration strategy. The explosive devices sometimes get dislocated due to rains causing the accidental blasts
