Security forces found explosives on Jammu-Pathankot highway, bomb squad called in

The IEDs were recovered in the Heeranagar sector of Kathua district, near the Sherpur village situated near the bridge adjacent to the India-Pakistan border.

Jammu: The security forces on Tuesday found two IEDs near a bridge on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, said an official. The traffic has been diverted on the route as a precautionary measure.

An official said that the explosives were found near a bridge in the Sherpur area on the national highway. Upon receiving this information, security forces immediately reached the spot, cordoned off the entire area, and with the help of a dog squad and bomb disposal team, recovered the IEDs. 

Two IEDs recovered 

During this operation, the Jammu-Pathankot traffic route was diverted. These IEDs were recovered from the Sherpur village situated near the bridge adjacent to the India-Pakistan border of Kathua district, which is located on the highway.

Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other security forces were present at the scene. An SP of Kathua said, "We received information about the presence of two IEDs here. Upon inspection, with the help of the bomb disposal team, we recovered what appears to be old IEDs, which we are currently investigating."

A search operation is underway by the police and security forces.
