Actor Vijay’s fan has been arrested by the police on Monday for allegedly posting derogatory comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social networking site Facebook. The arrest came after the BJP district secretary lodged a complaint against Thirumurugan (19) with Srivilliputhur town police.

Latest reports suggest that the actor’s fan posted disrespectful comments against the PM in a private chat. Thirumurugan has been charged under section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

It seems that the controversies surrounding the film are not going to end soon. It all started when BJP condemned some of the scenes of the film and demanded cuts. It snowballed into a big controversy with celebrities giving their support to the film.

Mersal has been doing good business at the national and international box office. The worldwide collection of film is inching towards Rs 200 crore mark. Recently, a leading distributor, Abirami Ramanathan has claimed that the box office numbers are fake as there is no proof to authenticate it.

Vijay plays triple role in the film. Directed by Atlee, the movie also features Nithya Menon, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Kajal Aggarwal in pivotal roles. Mersal is being called as one of the successful films of Vijay’s career.
